That Go Life

say NO to drugs, say YES to drug music! and MGMT (formerly the Management)

Okay so we’ve strayed away from our hyphy roots a bit but there are different varieties of hyphy ladies and gentleman. With MGMT you can go hippy hyphy! The two members attended school together at Wesleyan University and formed the group in Brooklyn, New York. Rolling Stone magazine deemed them as part of the “top 10 artists to watch” for 2008. Their sound has quickly spread across college campuses throughout the US. Their mix of keyboard with traditional rock sounds is the direction popular music is headed. Their musical talent coupled with their artistically abstract and, in my opinion, psychedelically inspired music videos will put MGMT atop the list of indie rock bands but their success in the mainstream is questionable. Checkem out…

Also check out “The Kids” which is another one of my favorite MGMT tracks.

Calvin Harris is a 23 year old Electronica artist from Scotland. His album is titled “I Created Disco.” Here is the video for his hit song “The Girls”

I also liked his chilled down, yet funky style in Love Souvenir.

Big Cartel

provides a platform for smaller vendors to create stores online. BG makes it very easy for store builders to create and customize a store and track inventory… and its all done for free. The main vendors on BG are clothing companies… like Franco Shade.300.jpg

They also claim to be the best place for musicians to start new clothing companies. Lil B and Young L of The Pack have close ties to the brand Glamosaurus.

Artists can also create stores on Big Cartel. Here is a print from Ben the Illustrator’s store.smart-03.jpg

Vimeo meets Steve Nash

Posted in Uncategorized by kkaiser1 on July 6, 2008

If I haven’t mentioned Vimeo before, I’m sorry because it is the best site for videos online. Sure it doesn’t have Youtube’s selection, but it is MUCH nicer. For example, lets take Steve Nash and Vimeoize and see what we get (the music for this clip is also pretty Vimeo so please plug in a sub).

Baseball Bat might be one of my favorite Young L solo songs. It took me a second to get used to the singing, but with modern sounding Young L production, its a hit.

How to Get Right this July 4th…

A little something to get your 4th of July right…

If you took Gym Class Heroes and multiplied them by Jack Johnson you will have yourself a Shwayze. I first heard this song during spring break this year and loved this guy.  If this video isn’t a documentation of your 4th of July festivities then you are simply incorrect.

Jay-Z at Glastonbury

Glastonbury is one of the UK’s premiere rock concerts, so it sparked a little controversy this year when Jay-Z was announced to headline the event. Mr. Carter played it off well when he came on stage with a guitar in hand singing Oasis’s “Wonderwall.”

In My Bed

My bed is very important to me. Currently, I live in a suburban home with my family due to my youth and lack of money, however, very soon I will be a young businessman with a loft in New York City. My future bedroom should be clean (white walls are almost essential) and it should feature a fly’s eye view of the city. Important things happen on one’s bed. I will leave that up to your interpretation. And I will also leave this bedworthy song:

Rotating Skyscraper

Posted in Uncategorized by kkaiser1 on July 4, 2008

Italian architect, David Fisher designed this 80 floor skyscraper in Dubai, expected to be completed in 2010. Each floor can be rotated 360 degrees according to its owner’s wishes. Everything is powered by turbines between the floors that collect wind power. Check out the video:

Mansard Roof

Mansard Roof is another single off of Vampire Weekend’s album… my favorite so far.
